Our History
Phillips Bros. Insurance Agency, Inc. was founded in 1873 by Joseph Phillips, who was joined in 1890 by two of his sons, Sam and Abe. After the deaths of Joseph in 1900 and Sam in 1910, the agency continued to expand through the efforts of Abe and his brother Louis, who gave the agency its current name. Louis' expertise in administration and Abe's superior sales and marketing skills account for the phenomenon of Phillips Bros. Insurance Agency, Inc. today.
Many of Abe's original accounts continue to be serviced by the agency. In 1946 Louis' son, Edward, joined the company. A graduate of the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and an officer in the U.S. Army, Edward catapulted the agency to its current prominent status, expanded the scope of all insurance operations and incorporated the company. By 1962 Phillips Bros. Insurance Agency, Inc. offered direct contractual brokerage/company arrangements. It was under Edward's leadership that the agency's premium volume escalated as many clients appreciated the integrity and expertise of the company and its competitive pricing. The personal attention Edward dedicated to each individual secured the agency's loyal and growing clientele. Rather than insuring merely a business or a building, Edward sought to provide peace of mind by insuring each client's life, family and commercial enterprises.
In 1975, Edward's son, Kevin, joined the family operation and worked closely with his father, observing his integrity and sincerity in helping his clients. Together the two solidified Phillips Bros. Insurance Agency Inc. as a modern, full-coverage provider that gives clients sophisticated, current coverage and promptly pays claims.
In 2008 Charles Phillips joined Phillips Brothers to continue in the long-standing family business as the 5th generation Phillips to work at Phillips Bros. After receiving his J.D. from the Emory School of Law in Atlanta, GA. Charles practiced law for some time at a prestigious Chicago law firm. Charles has learned from his Grandfather Ed, and his father Kevin, the morals and values, which have enabled Phillips Bros. to succeed for over 135 years.
"When you get a handshake from a Phillips, then you've got a deal," says Kevin. "That's when insurance is at its best." As current president of the company, Kevin practices the high-quality service standards established by his father, who passed away in 1998. "My father is a legend in the industry," he says.

This high degree of integrity established by Joseph Phillips more than a century ago has continued under Kevin's sophisticated leadership as he and Charles guide the agency through the technological age of the 21st century.
